An Ode to 2008
(Sung to the tune of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town”)

     I’ve tried to watch out,
     I’ve tried to stay home,
     But sweet invitations
     Have forced me to roam,
     All year long I’ve kept on leaving town.

     I made quite a list
     Of dates to be filled:
     Mexico, China,
     Russia, Brazil;
     Every month I’m tempted to leave town.

               I spoke on sport psychology,
               Expressive artwork too;
               On dreams and sex and folk healing,
               Shamans of every hue.

I kept dropping in
For musical treats:
Les Paul, Moody Blues, and lots of drum beats,
Marilyn Manson, Justice, and more,
Asylum Street Spankers, Broadway galore,
Opera in Paris, much to adore,
Puerto Rican dancers – never a bore,
But Saybrook Graduate School is at the core,
And that’s what keeps bringing me back to town!
