It's Been a Hard Twelve Months
Sung to the tune of “A Hard Day's Night” (Lennon/McCartney)
It's been a hard twelve months, and I've been working like a dog,
Some days I feel like a dunce, and my mind is in a fog;
I have my classes to teach, emails from scammers who leech,
And every deadline must be logged.
One hundred countries seen and Bermuda was the last.
Seventy-nine hard years, but my friends gave me a blast;
Another party next year, when I am eighty or near,
The days and nights go by so fast.
When I'm home, reading and writing at night,
When I'm home, everything seems to be right.
Took my granddaughter to Spain, visited Vienna as well,
Each day a new museum, each night another tale to tell;
We saw a splendid ballet, having pastry on the way,
And we could feel our tummies swell.
When I'm home, reading and writing at night,
When I'm home, everything seems to be right.
This year’s film festival for GIs happened to be in DC,
So my grandson met me there, at the museum for the Navy;
Back to DC late in the year, as a panel moderator,
For a debate on ESP!
It was a hard year of trips, and requests for lectures grew,
I spoke on dreams and myths, received another plaque or two;
One meeting, held by the Dutch, featured nightmares and such,
Of course, Brazil had meetings too.
For fun I went to U-2, their music was right on cue;
And then I felt all right, oh yes I felt all right!

Happy holidays to you and your loved ones!
